A brilliant debut mystery in a classic vein: Detective Cormoran Strike investigates a supermodel's suicide.

After losing his leg to a land mine in Afghanistan, Cormoran Strike is barely scraping by as a private investigator. Strike is down to one client, and creditors are calling. He has also just broken up with his longtime girlfriend and is living in his office.

Then John Bristow walks through his door with an amazing story: His sister, thelegendary supermodel Lula Landry, known to her friends as the Cuckoo, famously fell to her death a few months earlier. The police ruled it a suicide, but John refuses to believe that. The case plunges Strike into the world of multimillionaire beauties, rock-star boyfriends, and desperate designers, and it introduces him to every variety of pleasure, enticement, seduction, and delusion known to man.

You may think you know detectives, but you've never met one quite like Strike. You may think you know about the wealthy and famous, but you've never seen them under an investigation like this.

Introducing Cormoran Strike, this is the acclaimed first crime novel by J.K. Rowling, writing under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.

Page turner! Very fun and easy read!
  • Good writing, weak premise

At the end of this read I was disappointed with the premise of the entire story…. Made no sense to me… But the personalities of the two main characters, Strike and Robin, are interesting at least.
  • Good story

A little hard to read since it is written with British slang. The story itself was good though.
  • Loved it!

Engaging and character-driven, this well constructed mystery was almost impossible to put down!

Interesting story and good mix of sympathetic, unsympathetic and villainous characters. Ends with a twist that was unexpected but that was set up properly during the development of the tale. The book drags in the middle and would have benefited from editing to keep it moving along. Still, I enjoyed the story and continue to think about the plot and characters.
  • Thoroughly enjoyable

I really enjoyed this book. It's not at all like the Harry Potter series, nothing magical. Just a down to earth mystery novel with great characters and an engaging plot. The only downside for me was the amount of f-bombs. But I understand that's an attribute of some people so I got over it.
  • Ugh! Make it STOP!

I love Rowling just like everyone else but this book is killing me. I am struggling getting through it and it pains me to say so. It just goes on and on and on with nothing happening and it's just simply dull!

The build up can seem tedious, but be a man/woman and stick with it! It's well worth it when everything starts to come together. I was trying to solve the mystery as I was reading. JK Rowling is the best author of our age.
