Anthem is a dystopian fiction novella by Ayn Rand, written in 1937 and first published in 1938 in England. It takes place at some unspecified future date when mankind has entered another dark age characterized by irrationality, collectivism, and socialistic thinking and economics. Technological advancement is now carefully planned (when it is allowed to occur at all) and the concept of individuality has been eliminated.

Loved the short story, prime Ayn Rand. Don’t read the reviews below, they give away the ending, especially the one titled “Classic” by camerachic98 and the other reviewer that didn’t seem the grasp the literary form of the book.

This book is great if you like dystopias and satisfying endings☺️ It really makes one think about the world and what it would be like without electricity, in a non-utopian form of course!

This book is quotable, admirable, and relatable. Originally getting turned to Ayn Rand by Neil Peart (Drummer, Rush) I had yet to read her work. Let me make things perfectly clear, THIS WILL NOT BE THE LAST BOOK I READ OF HERS. "Anthem" is a thought-provoking and heart-warming tale of individualism and it's importance in society. This should be required reading before finishing High School/prior to entering University. I can't stress enough the importance of this message. EGO. -Kellen Schomaeker

Starts with promise, but ends up with pages of redundant pontificating.
