Description

Protecting the prince is easy. Falling in love with him while saving the world is . . . complicated.

From USA Today bestselling author Jillian Dodd comes the first book in a sizzling series filled with action and adventure. Fans of The Selection and The Hunger Games will discover a heart-pounding thrill ride of espionage and suspense set in glittering high society.

An eighteen-year-old covert agent is pulled out of training before graduation by Black X, an espionage group so secret even the President of the United States doesn't know it exists.

For her first mission, she must go undercover as the long-lost daughter of a recently deceased billionaire, infiltrate high society, and protect the Prince of Montrovia from assassination. But Prince Lorenzo is known as the Playboy Prince for a reason and his sensuality and charisma add a whole other level of complication to her mission.

She knows that her every move is being watched, but what she doesn’t know is that the Prince is just a chess piece in a bigger game that will have world-wide ramifications. And that Blackwood Academy, the place she has called home for the past six years, has secrets of its own.

Loved books 1 and 2. Will be reading the rest. I really like a strong woman character surrounded by smart supporting characters. And I love the action! Great plot line, thrilling action, and hot men. Doesn’t get much better than this. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

The overall idea for the story itself is good. I just wish it was executed by a better writer. The writing is very incoherent in some parts. The story line jumps around in illogical and unbelievable ways in some parts. It's very predictable, but most YA mysteries are. Many cliches can be found throughout this story so you can pretty much guess what's gonna happen at every potential twist or turn. None of the plot twists have been very twisty if you know what i mean. It's unfortunate when a potentially good story simply has bad writing. This could've been written by a middle schooler.

Jillian Dodd’s writing definitely is one that leaves you wanting more. She has a way about her writing that helps satisfy the craving for multiple perspectives. In the beginning I was not sure how I felt about this type of writing, but in a book like this it is much needed. I especially love how kick butt Huntley’s character is in the first two books in the series. The many hints that are dropped in and throughout the books is constantly leaving me wanting more. I only hope the next books give us the answers we are dying to know!

Three stars, because while the story was really good the writing itself needs a lot of work. The price of a novice writers short ebook should be lower considering it obviously didn’t go through any sort of editor and the length is about a two day read. On the plus side it was an addicting read with a well thought out plot. Semi-predictable, however it was still quite enjoyable. Characters are classic, lovable and mischievous with deep, thought out backgrounds and personalities.

I have not read such a gem of a book with such amazing story painting in years. Gripping, exhilarating, and amazingly written, you'd be a fool to pass up reading this series.
