Description

“Riveting, heart-wrenching, and full of Old Hollywood glamour, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is one of the most captivating reads of 2017.” –BuzzFeed

“The epic adventures Evelyn creates over the course of a lifetime will leave every reader mesmerized. This wildly addictive journey of a reclusive Hollywood starlet and her tumultuous Tinseltown journey comes with unexpected twists and the most satisfying of drama.” —PopSugar

From the author of Daisy Jones & The Six—an entrancing novel “that speaks to the Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor in us all” (Kirkus Reviews), in which a legendary film actress reflects on her relentless rise to the top and the risks she took, the loves she lost, and the long-held secrets the public could never imagine.

Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now?

Monique is not exactly on top of the world. Her husband has left her, and her professional life is going nowhere. Regardless of why Evelyn has selected her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jumpstart her career.

Summoned to Evelyn’s luxurious apartment, Monique listens in fascination as the actress tells her story. From making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the ‘80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way, Evelyn unspools a tale of ruthless ambition, unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love. Monique begins to feel a very real connection to the legendary star, but as Evelyn’s story near its conclusion, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique’s own in tragic and irreversible ways.

“Heartbreaking, yet beautiful” (Jamie Blynn, Us Weekly), The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is “Tinseltown drama at its finest” (Redbook): a mesmerizing journey through the splendor of old Hollywood into the harsh realities of the present day as two women struggle with what it means—and what it costs—to face the truth.

  • Well-written, engaging, but...

I’ve read a number of books by this author and have enjoyed them all. This one was also very good, but I wasn’t prepared for the big dose of lesbian/homosexual love story. I have nothing against the gay community, but I don’t really enjoy reading about women having sex with women. Other than that it’s an engrossing read.

Fascinating read, so Hollywood, loved the story and surprised with the ending. I really thought she would turn and go back so Evelyn would not be alone. I think I would have liked my ending better.

I am in love with the character of Evelyn Hugo. She is a truly well developed and complex character. She is ruthless and willing to fight dirty to protect what she loves. The extent of her strength is tested time and again, and Evelyn does whatever it takes to win every time.

An absolutely excellent book. Probably the best I’ve read in years. It pulls you right in and never let’s go. You will find yourself fascinated with Evelyn Hugo’s life story, and pulled into twists and turns you truly didn’t see coming. With every cent.

This story hooked me from the beginning! Excellent character development. Brutally honest truths about love life and loss. All things we as humans will endure in some measure throughout our lives. Amazing story that's left me yearning for more. Leaves me to wonder about the lives of real Hollywood stars like Hepburn or Taylor. It's a must read. And I think I've found a new favorite author!!

This book is sexy. I blushed. It’s also interesting with complicated characters and an air of mystery. There were some major impactful twists to the story that I didn’t see coming. If you’re looking for a surface level book, this isn’t it. This could be considered an easy read but it had a great level of depth at the same time. Different from any book I’ve read before. I enjoyed it.

Before I start, I just want to make it clear that even though this book took me 3 days to read, it left me breathless and I can already feel the huge book hangover coming on. TJR killed this book. I have so much to say about this book, but I hate giving spoilers. Evelyn Hugo is everything I love about Hollywood. I LIVE for celebrity gossip and scandal and this book delivers it on a silver platter with all the fixings. I was engrossed in this story. I didn't want to eat, sleep, or work. I wanted to devour this book as quickly as possible. I was completely fascinated with Evelyn's life. Watching her grow and out smart most of the people encountered was mesmerizing. Celia & Harry's characters were some of the best secondary (that feels like an insult because they were a huge piece of Evelyn's life) characters I have ever read. Reliving her past with Monique was something I will never forget. This is one book I wish I could reread because I love the way it has made me feel.
