Provocative and shocking.” —Lisa Gardner, New York Times bestselling author of Find Her

“I read this novel at one sitting, absolutely riveted by the storyline.  The suspense was beautifully rendered and unrelenting!” —Sue Grafton, New York Times bestselling author of X

It all started at a dinner party. . .

A domestic suspense debut about a young couple and their apparently friendly neighbors—a twisty, rollercoaster ride of lies, betrayal, and the secrets between husbands and wives. . .

Anne and Marco Conti seem to have it all—a loving relationship, a wonderful home, and their beautiful baby, Cora. But one night, when they are at a dinner party next door, a terrible crime is committed. Suspicion immediately lands on the parents. But the truth is a much more complicated story.

Inside the curtained house, an unsettling account of what actually happened unfolds. Detective Rasbach knows that the panicked couple is hiding something. Both Anne and Marco soon discover that the other is keeping secrets, secrets they've kept for years.

What follows is the nerve-racking unraveling of a family—a chilling tale of  deception, duplicity, and unfaithfulness that will keep you breathless until the final shocking twist.

  • Enthralling!

This book will grip you from chapter one. (Don't start it an hour before you're supposed to go to sleep. Word to the wise) Every time I thought I had figured out the story, another twist came along, right to the last page. I got pulled into the tale so strongly, I couldn't bring myself to step back out before I finished it!

It took me a minute to get used to Lapena’s style—third person, present tense, shifts in perspective are subtle—, but I actually really like it. Every time I thought I had it figured out, PLOT TWIST. Right until the end.

At first, it started off slower than I thought but once it hit the climax, I couldn’t not put it down. Enjoy this thriller of a book!

. Although very predictable there are lots of twists and turns . Disappointing ending.
  • Really good

I have read the worst books lately and this was a breath of fresh air. I breezed through this in about a week and it held my interest he entire time.
  • No surprises

    By Foodie1234
I knew quickly what happened and then skimmed the rest of the book. Little suspense. Not at all like Gone Girl or Girl On The Train. I didn’t like any of the characters, they were all weak, sad and selfish. The writing was also poor, with many of the same phrases being repeated, “I almost feel sorry for X,” was used at least 5 times. Boring.
  • Entertaining, nothing special

This book was alright. I felt I gave up after initial some information was revealed. Was able to make some predictions. Pretty good book
