The Gulag Archipelago (Russian: Архипелаг ГУЛАГ, Arkhipelag GULAG) is a book by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn about the Soviet forced labor camp system. The three-volume book is a narrative relying on eyewitness testimony and primary research material, as well as the author's own experiences as a prisoner in a gulag labor camp. Written between 1958 and 1968, it was published in the West in 1973 and thereafter circulated in samizdat (underground publication) form in the Soviet Union until its appearance in the Russian literary journal, Novy Mir, in 1989, in which a third of the work was published over three issues.

  • Awful formatting!

    By Lava Gecko
Can’t argue with Sozhenitsyn’s work, stands for itself. This was the only eBook edition I could find and it is bad OCR of a bad scan and its horrible! Probably was a Google Library scan they just sell (hopefully with royalties going to the author’s estate) without any editing whatsoever. You just have to learn to learn the code - “U” =“l l,” for example. I have so many print books I got a double hernia last time we moved them all ;-) so I decided to go all eBook. This nearly illegible scan makes me think I should make some exceptons...
  • Do not buy

I bought this and due to it being a bad translation, or transcription I've bought the hard copy. The book has not transferred well into an ebook format, and was very difficult to read. Bad formatting, misspelled words, etc. I would recommend you read the book just not on this format.
  • Where is the rest of the book?

Brilliant and momentous, but this is only part one of three! Where is the rest of it?
  • Tragic Story
